Author: Zia Sherrell

Unhappy with your sex life? You’re not alone.

A significant 50% of Americans feel the same. Even though having a satisfying sex life confers a myriad of health benefits, a considerable proportion of us are not engaging in the enjoyable sex that we desire and deserve.

There are a thousand different reasons why your sex life isn’t as perfect as you’d like.

Maybe you’re working long hours, have responsibilities at home, stress, worries, illnesses, chronic conditions, or injuries.

Perhaps you can’t unwind and let go.

The list goes on.

How can you improve the situation and have the intimacy and mind-blowing sex you crave?

Using CBD, a cannabinoid that’s been used in natural medicine for centuries, can give your sex life the scientifically proven boost it needs. And if that wasn't enough, more recently, people have been using another cannabinoid called Delta 8 to also improve sex life.

In this blog post, we will look at five ways this non-psychoactive cannabinoid can improve not only your general well-being but also spice up your sex life.

First, let’s begin with a bit of background on the endocannabinoid system. It’ll help you to understand exactly how CBD can help you to join the ranks of the sexually fulfilled.

What Is the Endocannabinoid System?

Your body naturally produces substances that mirror those found in cannabis. They are called endocannabinoids.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of three main components:

  • Endogenously, or self-produced cannabinoids. There are two endocannabinoids that we currently know of. These are anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglyerol (2-AG).
  • Specific receptors that both endocannabinoids and cannabinoids can bind to. In the brain and central nervous system, you will find CB1, whereas, in the digestive, immune, and peripheral nervous system, it’s CB2.
  • The final constituents of the ECS are the enzymes. There is the fatty acid, amide hydrolase, which breaks down AEA. The second enzyme, monoacylglycerol acid lipase, breaks down 2-AG.

You can find parts of the ECS all over the body, but it’s particularly widespread in the immune, digestive, nervous, and reproductive systems.

So why do we need the ECS?

The systems in our bodies exist within narrow margins of acceptability. Maintaining these levels is known as homeostasis, and it is essential for life.

We rely on the ECS to help us regulate homeostasis.

Endocannabinoids act to restore and maintain correct levels of temperature, heart rate, oxygen level, blood sugar, and hormones. Once they have done their job of restoring harmony, the enzymes come into play. They act to break down the endocannabinoids to prevent them from having too significant an effect on the body.

Our appetite, mood, memory, pleasure, pain, and sleeping patterns are all linked to the ECS.

The ECS is a key player in human health, behavior, and sexuality, and it means that we can harness the power of CBD for health issues, pain, stress relief, and of course, an increase in sexual function. Here’s how.

1. CBD heightens sensation

Sex and sensation go hand in hand, and CBD increases nerve sensation.

The ECS is particularly rich in the female reproductive system; the vulva, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus have high levels of cannabinoid receptors. Researchers have also found ECS receptors in the testicles.

The ECS affects the sensation and level of pleasure that both sexes feel during sex, and it’s also associated with how easily and intensely you orgasm.

In a recent survey conducted about sex and CBD, 68% of the 1000 people interviewed say that CBD enhanced their sex lives. A substantial proportion of 39% noted that CBD was either extremely effective during sex, or very effective for 28% of the respondents.

The reason behind the success was due in part to increased sensation, but also reduced anxiety and pain, and enhanced mood.

2. CBD increases libido

Did you know that you need two distinct systems in your body to function together for you to feel sexual desire?

The sexual excitation system encourages sexual arousal, while the sexual inhibition system works to dampen your ardor. The systems are different for everyone, and they control how much stimulation you need to feel passionate.

CBD works to increase libido by harmonizing both systems and negating anxiety and stress that can trigger the inhibitory system and make you reluctant to have sex.

3. CBD helps with erectile disfunction (ED)

Having problems with erectile dysfunction (ED) is a sensitive subject that most men prefer to avoid.

The crucial thing to note is that it’s common, and we are talking extremely common here. Not to mention that it can happen at any age, although it becomes more prevalent as we advance in years.

Around half of men in their 50’s have experienced the problem.

Erections are complex. You may not realize it, but there are many systems at play; hormones, blood circulation, nerves, muscles, and brain activity.

The reasons behind ED are equally as complicated and could be physical and due to health problems, or psychological, due to stress or past traumas.

CBD can help with ED by increasing penile blood flow and by acting as a stress reliever.

4. CBD relieves pain

Pain is not sexy. You could be experiencing pain in your day-to-day life, or you find that the act of sex itself causes you pain and discomfort.

If this is the case, then you’re unlikely to look forward to a night of passion wholeheartedly.

Thankfully, CBD can help relieve pain through its potent anti-inflammatory effects. Researchers have found that CBD has the power to diminish joint pain, nerve damage, and inflammation in the digestive system.

Women, and in particular post-menopausal ladies, can experience sexual pain. The reason can be something as simple as vaginal dryness, leading to genital inflammation and pain for both partners.

A CBD lube or balm can bring instant relief, leading to an increase in enjoyment and in future interest in engaging in sexual activity.

5. CBD curbs anxiety

You are not alone if you have experienced anxiety about sex. Both men and women suffer negative thoughts and nerves when it comes to expectations in the bedroom.

Will I last long enough? Do I look good naked? Will I enjoy it? What will my partner think of me?

Thoughts like these can get in the way of your enjoyment and turn sex into an anxiety-riddled ordeal.

CBD can positively affect your mental state and reduce anxiety. You’ll feel more relaxed, confident, and happy, meaning you and your partner can look forward to intimacy, and not avoid or dread it.

CBD could be the boost your sex life needs

There’s a spectrum of effects that CBD exerts to promote healthy sexual function for both men and women.

Even if you’re not suffering from any conditions such as pain or anxiety that can interfere with sexual enjoyment and performance, CBD can enhance your sex life through increasing blood flow, accentuating sensation, deepening orgasms, and bringing feelings of joy and serenity.

Why not enjoy your sex life more by bringing CBD into the bedroom? You might be pleasantly surprised.
